perry

Perry  broke his neck and severed his spinal cord in a rugby union game in 1994, and was left a quadriplegic on life support, unable to move from the neck down, unable to talk and or eat.  Over the next 12 months Perry continued to confound the experts, and he has never stopped pushing the limits.

Perry was the first ventilated quadriplegic in Queensland to leave hospital for a life at home needing 24 hours care, he was also the first in Australia to attend university and earn a degree.

Prior to his accident, Perry was a talented sportsman, representing The Southport School in the first XV for Rugby Union, and the first VIII for Rowing.  In the first three years after his accident Perry completed a Bachelor of Communication/Business.

In the last eleven years of Perry’s life, he has commanded public attention in his fight against the crippling quadriplegia with the help of a wheelchair, a ventilator, a supportive family and a team of dedicated carers; he has fought his debilitating injury and achieved goals that would test the resolve of the most able-bodied.

Just two years after his accident Perry became Australia’s first motivational speaker on life support, and was runner up in the prestigious International Communicator of the Year awards.
